Holidays and Family practice!
I read this recently : "If you are enlightened, go visit your family."
Coming home for a holiday can mean getting stuck in family patterns - or growing into something new.
A family gathering offers the opportunity to understand something about who we are and what we need to work on. If we accept them, than they became our truly teachers. They are the book in which we can read our own character and karma.
They show us our strength-the skills and competencies we came into this life having mastered. They also reveal our own weakness, the wounds and triggers that we will need to deal sooner or later. I believe it takes time to recognize and remember this practice.
So here are some practices:
See beauty in the beast. (inquiry )
Hold your fire. ( observation)
Cultivate the opposite thoughts. ( This is a famous practice from Yoga Sutra is the core tactic of changing your mind by changing your thoughts)
Give your blessings. (positive intention)
Often the loving attention is just what is needed!
Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored. -Rumi
